Developers of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Reveal Details About the Swarm Faction

Unfrozen Studio, the developers behind Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era, have unveiled further details about the intriguing Swarm faction, following its initial teaser. They've revealed the inspiration behind this unique castle, explaining the evolution of the concept from "Inferno" to "Swarm," and the unfolding events on the continent of Jadame.

The Swarm's defining characteristic is its adaptability. Some creatures possess abilities directly influenced by the enemy unit's level; the greater the difference, the higher the damage inflicted. Others, like mantises, strategically choose from three abilities each round. A fascinating mechanic allows creatures such as worms and locusts to devour corpses, restoring health and boosting their power – a skill your heroes can also learn.

In Olden Era, the insectoid race, only briefly mentioned in Might & Magic 8, takes on the mantle of the demonic threat. While respecting the original lore, the developers have infused the Swarm with elements of body horror and occultism, transforming them from a mere insect colony into a devoted cult serving a single, powerful ruler. Each member is a part of a vast collective consciousness, existing solely to execute their master's will.

Gameplay revolves around the Swarm's "mono-faction" mechanic, rewarding players who utilize only Swarm units, as these units synergistically enhance one another. Furthermore, Swarm troops can summon cocoons; their health directly correlates to the army's overall size. Upon hatching, these larvae temporarily join the battle, providing tactical adaptability to diverse battlefield scenarios.

The Swarm's aggressive playstyle is highlighted by its creatures' ability to devour corpses for healing and empowerment, combined with unique abilities that shift based on enemy strength. This dynamic approach fosters direct confrontations and presents players with a completely new combat strategy.
