A remake of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion will have big changes to game mechanics

A recent report by MP1st reveals details about an unannounced remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, sourced from the portfolio of an anonymous former Virtuos developer. This remake, reportedly built using Unreal Engine 5, promises a significant departure from the original.

The portfolio showcases a complete reimagining of Oblivion, with overhauls to core mechanics. These include stamina management, stealth systems, attack blocking (inspired by Soulslike games to address the original's perceived shortcomings), archery, damage feedback, and the user interface. The damage system will feature visible reactions to attacks, and stamina is expected to be more intuitive. The UI and archery mechanics will also receive modernizations.

MP1st suggests that the project may have initially been planned as a remaster (as hinted by leaked Microsoft documents), but evolved into a full remake. While sources confirm the remake won't appear at the upcoming Developer_Direct, rumors suggest a potential release date within the current year.
