Capcom Aims for Global Domination with Monster Hunter Wilds -----------------------------------------------------------------------------A Seamless Hunting Experience
Monster Hunter Wilds plunges players into a vibrant, interconnected world where the ecosystem reacts dynamically to player actions. In a Summer Game Fest interview, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, executive director Kaname Fujioka, and director Yuya Tokuda detailed the game's innovative features.
Wilds retains the core hunting gameplay of its predecessors, but ditches the segmented zones for a seamless open world. Hunters explore freely, hunt monsters, and interact with the environment without the limitations of traditional mission structures.
Fujioka emphasized the importance of this seamlessness: "Creating detailed, immersive ecosystems demanded a seamless world where hunters could freely pursue hostile monsters."
A Dynamic and Living World
The Summer Game Fest demo showcased diverse biomes, desert settlements, NPC hunters, and dynamic monster interactions. Players enjoy a more freeform experience, choosing targets and actions without time constraints. Fujioka highlighted the focus on world interaction: "We focused on interactions like monster packs chasing prey and how they conflict with human hunters. Their 24-hour behavior patterns make the world feel more dynamic and organic."
Real-time weather changes and fluctuating monster populations further enhance the dynamic world. Tokuda explained the technological advancements: "Creating a massive, changing ecosystem with more monsters and interactive characters was a challenge. Environmental changes now happen simultaneously, something previously impossible."
The success of Monster Hunter World provided valuable insights for Wilds' development. Tsujimoto emphasized the global approach: "Our global mindset for Monster Hunter World, including simultaneous worldwide release and extensive localization, helped us reach players who haven't played Monster Hunter in a while and bring them back."
