Hazelight's Josef Fares Says Single-Player Game is Possible in the Future
Josef Fares, the visionary behind Hazelight Studios and the creator of the cooperative adventure game Split Fiction, recently took the time to engage with fans and clarify previous statements while addressing criticisms related to his work. Amidst discussions, a fan accused Fares of proclaiming the demise of single-player games in past interviews. Fares was quick to dispel this notion, emphasizing that Hazelight's critically acclaimed title, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (2013), was indeed a single-player experience.

Fares elaborated on Hazelight's direction, noting that while the studio is renowned for its cooperative focus, the possibility of developing a single-player game akin to their past projects is not ruled out. "We're not excluding it," he affirmed, indicating Hazelight's willingness to venture into different gameplay formats in the future.
In response to criticisms regarding the decision to feature two female protagonists in Split Fiction, Fares addressed concerns about the game promoting feminism or pushing a specific agenda. He pointed out Hazelight's history of diverse character pairings, such as two brothers in Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, two men in A Way Out, and a male-female duo in It Takes Two. Despite this track record, the choice of two female leads in Split Fiction stirred controversy.
Fares clarified that the characters were inspired by his daughters, and his priority remains on creating compelling narratives and well-developed personalities, rather than focusing on gender. "I don't care what's between someone's legs—it's about crafting great characters," he stated passionately.
Released on March 6th, Split Fiction has garnered widespread critical acclaim for its innovative gameplay mechanics and diverse scenarios. Prior to its launch, system requirements were shared to ensure players are well-equipped to immerse themselves in Hazelight's latest masterpiece.
