The team at MercurySteam, comprised of alumni from Rebel Act Studios, brings a rich history to their latest project. They are the masterminds behind the cult classic Severance: Blade of Darkness, which hit the shelves in 2001. This game was renowned for its groundbreaking combat system that let players dismember enemies, adding a layer of brutal realism that set it apart. Severance has been a pivotal influence on MercurySteam's new venture.

While drawing from their past, the developers have also embraced the evolution of the genre, taking cues from modern action-adventure masterpieces. A prime example is the God of War reboot by Santa Monica Studio, admired for its cinematic combat and richly detailed world. MercurySteam's goal is to merge this fast-paced action with deep RPG mechanics to craft a gaming experience that's both thrilling and immersive.

A standout feature of Blades of Fire is its innovative weapon crafting system. Players can forge their own blades, fine-tuning aspects like length, weight, durability, and balance. This customization empowers players to create weapons that perfectly match their combat preferences, enhancing the personal touch to the gameplay.

The narrative of Blades of Fire centers around the warrior Aran de Lira, who embarks on a quest against a cunning queen with the power to petrify metal. Throughout his journey, Aran will encounter 50 distinct enemy types, each demanding a strategic approach to defeat.

Blades of Fire is slated for release on May 22, 2025, and will be available on PC via the Epic Games Store, as well as on Xbox Series and PS5, offering players across different platforms the chance to dive into this richly crafted world.
