The Evolution of the Dungeon Faction in Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era
The Dungeon faction, also known as the Warlocks' faction, has always been a beloved element in the *Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era*. Our journey into Jadame introduced us to creatures inherently linked to this faction, each with their unique territories on the continent. This allowed the developers to weave a faction that is both steeped in tradition and brimming with fresh concepts.

If we were to encapsulate the essence of the Dungeon faction across the series in just two words, "power" and "outcasts" would be fitting. By revisiting the world of Enroth, we have the opportunity to redefine these formidable warlocks, drawing inspiration from the rich lore of Jadame, especially through the lens of Might and Magic VIII: The Alvaric Pact, which reimagines the Dungeon faction.
Once seen as mere monsters, these characters now form alliances with red-skinned dark elves, who have historically been ostracized for their practical approach to life. Together, they strengthen their position through diplomacy, trade, and strategic pacts—a marked evolution from the faction's earlier incarnations.
Throughout the *Heroes* series, the presence of skilled warlocks and commanding leaders has been a hallmark of the playable cities, with each game offering a different portrayal:
- In *Heroes I* and *Heroes II*, the servants of Lord Alamar and King Archibald pursued power, rallying like-minded creatures to their cause.
- In *Heroes III*, Nighon's warlords embraced the philosophy that strength justifies dominance, ruling from subterranean tunnels and harboring ambitions of conquering Antagarich.
- In *Heroes IV*, chaotic sorcerers and thieves resided in Axeoth's swamps, mobilizing rogues to seize territory in the evolving world.
- In parts five through seven, Ashan's dark elves forged alliances with the Dragon-Goddess Malassa and the underworld, crafting a narrative rich with intrigue.
