Civilization VI: Fastest Science Victory Civs, Ranked
Conquer Civilization VI's Science Victory: A Guide to the Fastest Civilizations
Civilization VI offers three victory paths, and while Religious Victories offer a swift win, Science victories provide a compelling alternative with the right strategy and leader. While many civilizations can efficiently progress through the tech tree, certain leaders excel at achieving a rapid Science victory. This guide highlights four such leaders, emphasizing strategic city placement and maximizing science output.
Quick Links
Seondeok - Korea
Leader Ability: Hwarang: Each Governor promotion grants +3% Culture and Science to their city.
Civilization Ability: Three Kingdoms: Farms and Mines gain +1 Food and +1 Science respectively for each adjacent Seowon.
Unique Units: Hwacha (Renaissance), Seowon (Campus replacement: +4 Science, -2 Science for adjacent Districts).
Seondeok's strength lies in the synergy between her ability and the Seowon district. Early game expansion is key. Utilize Magnus' promotion to prevent population loss during settler creation for rapid city growth. Prioritize Civics unlocking Governor Titles to maximize the Hwarang bonus. Strategically place Seowons at least two tiles from city centers, adjacent to future Mines to leverage the Three Kingdoms bonus.
Lady Six Sky - Maya
Leader Ability: Ix Mutal Ajaw: Cities within 6 tiles of the capital gain +10% to all yields and a free Builder upon founding, but cities beyond 6 tiles suffer -15% yields.
Civilization Ability: Mayab: No housing from freshwater or coastal cities; instead, gain +1 Amenity per adjacent luxury resource. Farms gain +1 Housing and +1 Production adjacent to Observatories.
Unique Units: Hul'che (Ancient), Observatory (+2 Science from Plantation adjacency, +1 from Farms).
Lady Six Sky's ability necessitates a compact empire within a 6-tile radius of the capital. Focus on early expansion, ensuring at least five or six cities within this radius. Maximize Observatory adjacency bonuses by placing them next to Plantations or Farms. This concentrated approach allows for efficient yield generation and rapid technological advancement.
Peter - Russia
Leader Ability: The Grand Embassy: Trade routes with other civilizations grant +1 Science and +1 Culture for every 3 Technologies or Civics they possess beyond Russia's level.
Civilization Ability: Mother Russia: +5 extra tiles when founding cities; Tundra tiles grant +1 Faith and +1 Production; units are immune to Blizzards; enemies suffer double penalties in Russian territory.
Unique Units: Cossack (Industrial), Lavra (Holy District replacement).
While Peter excels in Culture and Religious victories, his ability to generate Science and Culture through trade routes makes him a viable option for a Science victory. Russia's increased founding range allows for effective forward settling. Focus on building Campuses near mountains and enhancing trade capabilities through Currency Exchange and Harbors to maximize Science gains from trade routes.
Hammurabi - Babylon
Leader Ability: Ninu Ilu Sirum: Receive the cheapest building for free when constructing any district (except Government Plaza); gain a free Envoy when building other districts.
Civilization Ability: Enuma Anu Enlil: Eurekas instantly unlock Technologies, but Science output is reduced by 50%.
Unique Units: Sabum Kibittum (Ancient), Palgum (+2 Production, +1 Housing, +1 Food for adjacent freshwater).
Babylon's -50% Science penalty is offset by rapid expansion and strategic Eureka exploitation. Prioritize triggering Eurekas early, focusing on Production, Currency, and city growth. Place Spies in advanced civilizations to accelerate Eureka progress. Delay Campus construction until later, leveraging Hammurabi's ability to obtain free buildings, ensuring a significant Science boost in the mid-game. Maintain a focus on Eurekas throughout the game, building Science to support end-game technologies.
By mastering these strategies and leveraging the unique strengths of these leaders, you can significantly increase your chances of securing a fast and decisive Science victory in Civilization VI.
