Elden Ring Nightreign: Beloved Feature Removed

Jan 23,25

Elden Ring: Nightreign will remove the in-game messaging feature, a significant departure from previous FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision in a recent interview, citing the game's shorter play sessions. Nightreign matches last approximately forty minutes, leaving insufficient time for players to leave or read messages effectively.

"Given the roughly forty-minute session length, there's not enough time to send or read messages, so we disabled the feature," Ishizaki stated.

This choice is notable considering the prominent role messaging has played in enhancing player interaction and enjoyment in past FromSoftware games. However, the development team deemed the feature unsuitable for Nightreign's design.

To maintain the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features a separate storyline. It offers a fresh adventure with unique challenges and encounters, while preserving the atmosphere and complexity of the Elden Ring world.
