ANANTA Ditches Character Gacha: Report

ANANTA will not feature character gacha mechanics in its gameplay. Continue reading to discover the latest updates on its gameplay and what fans can anticipate from its upcoming debut at Tokyo Game Show 2025.
ANANTA Gameplay Updates and Upcoming Events
No Character Gacha System
ANANTA, the eagerly awaited anime game, will not include character gacha mechanics. According to a September 23 report from Japanese video game magazine Famitsu, all characters in the game will be obtainable for free.
The report mentioned that ANANTA's monetization strategy will focus on customization options, including clothing, vehicles, and other cosmetic items. The specifics of how gacha mechanics might apply to these features remain unclear at this time.
Further details will be shared in Famitsu's upcoming weekly issue, which features an exclusive interview with the game's developers discussing various aspects of ANANTA.

Meanwhile, fans on Reddit's r/gachagaming community have been sharing their perspectives on the recent trend of previously announced or speculated gacha games abandoning the system. With Duet Night Abyss (DNA) also eliminating its gacha mechanics, users humorously suggested that both DNA and ANANTA no longer belong in gacha gaming discussions, proposing a new category for these non-gacha anime games.
While many players welcome developers moving away from the gacha model, some express concern about whether these alternative approaches will prove successful. However, other fans remain confident in the new model, noting that publisher NetEase has established credibility with free-to-play titles like Marvel Rivals and Destiny: Rising.
New Gameplay Trailer Revealed
Following its initial announcement trailer nine months ago, ANANTA has unveiled a new gameplay-focused teaser. On September 23, developer Naked Rain, a subsidiary of publisher NetEase Games, released fresh footage of this upcoming urban open-world action RPG.
The seven-minute video showcases the distinctive and expansive environment of Nova City, emphasizing the extensive possibilities for combat and exploration. Players assume the role of a new captain in a special task force, charged with assembling a team to enhance their department's reputation.
Players can also control various charismatic and unconventional team members while completing missions as "a department head, a prosperous elite, and a hacker." According to the video description, "In this world filled with eccentric characters, everyone has their own survival methods. Your secret weapon? Social media. To achieve your objectives, you'll need to become an internet sensation while saving the world!"

Viewers in the YouTube comments expressed enthusiasm for ANANTA's gameplay and presentation. One commenter described it as a blend of several popular open-world games, including Grand Theft Auto, Cyberpunk 2077, Watch Dogs, and Genshin Impact.
Others expressed relief that the game remains in development after nearly a year without updates from the developers. Overall, ANANTA continues to build on its momentum from last year, generating excitement within the community through its diverse features and mechanics.
Playable Demo at Tokyo Game Show 2025
Last week, developers confirmed that ANANTA will be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2025, held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. In a September 16 post on ANANTA's Japanese Twitter (X) account, they revealed details about the game's TGS 2025 booth.
According to the announcement, attendees can experience two gameplay modes: story and exploration. Story mode will feature intense car chases and combat sequences, while Exploration mode lets players investigate Nova City's commercial districts and hidden alleyways.

The ANANTA booth will operate from September 25 to 28, with demo participants receiving limited-edition 3D commemorative cards. Exclusive merchandise including fans, bags, character acrylic keychains, and TGS-limited stickers will also be available for purchase.
With these recent developments and upcoming events, excitement for ANANTA continues to grow. Many anticipate announcements regarding launch dates or beta testing, though Naked Rain and NetEase have not confirmed any specific plans.
ANANTA is currently in development for PlayStation 5, PC, and mobile platforms (iOS and Android). No release date has been announced yet. For the most current information about the game, stay tuned for further updates.
