Suikoden STAR LEAP Marks Franchise’s Mobile RPG Debut

Konami Targets Broader Audience

Suikoden STAR LEAP delivers a console-like experience on mobile devices. In a March 4, 2025, Famitsu interview, developers shared insights into the game’s creation.

Producer Shinya Fujimatsu explained Konami’s choice of mobile, stating, "We aimed to make Suikoden accessible to a wide audience, so mobile was the ideal platform. We’re committed to preserving the series’ essence while crafting a true numbered entry."

The team focused on delivering console-quality visuals, audio, and storytelling, seamlessly integrated with mobile’s convenience.

Capturing Suikoden’s Essence in STAR LEAP

Fujimatsu emphasized that Suikoden’s charm lies in its blend of war themes and deep friendships. He noted, "STAR LEAP tells a fresh story of the 108 stars, staying true to the Suikoden Genso spirit."

Director Yoshiki Meng Shan highlighted the series’ vibrant tone, blending camaraderie with intense moments. He added, "The fast-paced battles and large ensemble of characters working together define Suikoden’s unique appeal."

A Sequel and Prequel to the Series

STAR LEAP serves as both a sequel and prequel, spanning multiple eras in the Suikoden universe. Set two years before Suikoden 1, it weaves through different timelines, enriching the series’ official history.

Fujimatsu urged fans to anticipate STAR LEAP’s quality, saying, "Even newcomers can dive in easily on mobile, with a story and gameplay designed to welcome everyone to the Suikoden Genso world."

Meng Shan echoed this, stating, "Suikoden is a premier RPG series in Japan. We’ve meticulously crafted its story, visuals, battle system, sound, and progression to honor its legacy. We look forward to players experiencing it."

Announced during the Suikoden Live broadcast on March 4, 2025, STAR LEAP is in development for iOS and Android. No official release date has been confirmed.
