Stellar Blade Developer Responds to DRM and Region Lock Concerns Before PC Launch

Stellar Blade's developer has responded to player concerns about the game's DRM protection and regional restrictions. Here's what you need to know about the impact of DRM and the studio's plans for addressing region lock limitations.

Latest Stellar Blade PC Updates

SHIFT UP Responds to DRM Questions

As Stellar Blade prepares for its PC launch, developer SHIFT UP has addressed player worries about the inclusion of Denuvo anti-tamper technology. In a May 17 Twitter (X) post, the studio explained they "optimized the DRM implementation to maintain consistent average frame rates while improving minimum frames in certain scenarios."

Denuvo serves as copyright protection technology designed to prevent illegal copying and distribution of games. While effective against piracy, its impact on game performance remains controversial within the gaming community.

Stellar Blade Performance Tests Show Minimal DRM Impact

SHIFT UP shared performance benchmarks comparing the game with and without DRM. Their tests revealed nearly identical results across average, minimum, and maximum frame rates, including both 1% and 0.1% low measurements.

The studio also confirmed full mod support without restrictions - a notable consideration given DRM's typical limitations. While players praised this transparency, many still hope for complete removal of Denuvo to ensure broader accessibility.

Ongoing Region Lock Challenges

Stellar Blade Faces Regional Access Restrictions

Another point of contention involves PlayStation's regional restrictions. Despite not requiring PlayStation Network (PSN) connectivity, the game remains unavailable in over 130 countries where PSN service is unsupported.

SHIFT UP stated they're "actively working with the publisher to resolve regional access issues as quickly as possible." The developer assured players that both PC and PS5 versions will receive identical content, preventing early adopters from missing future updates.

While fans appreciate these responses, many continue advocating for DRM-free availability and fewer platform restrictions. Stellar Blade arrives on Steam June 11. For ongoing updates about the game's development and launch preparations, stay tuned to our coverage.
