Squad Busters 2.0 Launches on Android Before First Anniversary

May 29,25

Squad Busters is celebrating its first birthday, and Supercell is pulling out all the stops with a massive update—version 2.0. Described as the game’s most significant overhaul to date, this update lands on May 13th. Since its launch in 2024, Squad Busters has struggled to reach the levels of success achieved by games like Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars. So, does 2.0 hold the key to change?

A Complete Reboot

This isn’t your typical minor tweak. Squad Busters 2.0 feels more like a reboot, with every aspect of the game being reimagined. The battle mechanics, victory conditions, and overall gameplay are undergoing a complete transformation.

Heroes Take Center Stage: One of the most notable changes is the introduction of Heroes. Players will now select a Hero to lead their team, and these Heroes are derived from familiar characters. However, if your Hero falls during a match, it’s game over. This adds a layer of strategy and risk-reward dynamics to each battle.

Combat and Movement Merged: Another groundbreaking change is the integration of movement and combat. No longer will players have to pause to engage in fights. This seamless combination makes battles faster-paced, more aggressive, and undeniably chaotic.

Victory Redefined: The win conditions are evolving as well. Instead of requiring the total elimination of the opposing team, players now only need to defeat the enemy Hero. While some players view this shift as a move toward a Brawl Stars-style format, others are curious to see how it plays out in practice.

Stripping Down the Old

Supercell isn’t stopping at new features; several beloved modes and elements are being removed. Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder are among the casualties. Additionally, some older skins and progression systems are disappearing, though players will receive Hero Points and other items as compensation.

Why the Rush?

It’s clear why Supercell is pushing these changes so quickly. Despite its promising start, Squad Busters hasn’t reached the same level of popularity as its counterparts. With the first anniversary approaching on May 29th, Supercell is banking on 2.0 to reignite player interest. To sweeten the deal, daily piñata events will soon begin, offering opportunities to unlock a new Hero named Mortis.
