Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Star Hasn't Recorded His Lines Yet

Jharrel Jerome, star of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has poured cold water on hopes of a speedy release for the highly anticipated third installment, Beyond the Spider-Verse. He revealed he hasn't even begun recording his lines yet.

Speaking to Decider, Jerome confirmed that production hasn't commenced, explaining that several aspects are still "being figured out." This news, while unsurprising given the five-year gap between the first and second films, will undoubtedly disappoint eager fans.

"No, I wish," Jerome responded when asked about production. "We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things."

While Jerome's role in the second film was relatively small, his part in the third is expected to be significantly larger. Spoiler alert for Across the Spider-Verse's ending: He's poised to play the main antagonist. Jerome portrays Miles G. Morales from Earth-42, a version of Miles who appears at the film's conclusion, not as Spider-Man, but as the Prowler.

This Miles's journey diverges sharply from the protagonist's. The radioactive spider bite intended for the main Miles instead bit this alternate version. Consequently, Miles G. Morales never became Spider-Man, and following the death of his universe's Peter Parker, New York fell under the control of supervillains—with Miles himself becoming one.

The unfolding of this storyline, and its collision with the main Miles's journey as Spider-Man, will be central to Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, fans face a considerable wait before witnessing this confrontation. Deadline suggests a 2026 release at the earliest, although a release date mirroring the gap between the previous films would push it to 2028.
