Silent Hill f Gets Japan's Top 18+ Rating

Oct 22,25

Silent Hill f marks a series first by receiving Japan's strictest 18+ age rating.

As shown in the Japanese reveal trailer last night, the game carries an M rating in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and Japan's CERO:Z certification.

While ratings may adjust during development, Automaton notes that previous mainline Silent Hill games (1-4) all received CERO:C (15+) ratings in Japan, with international-developed entries typically rated CERO:C or CERO:D (17+).

Notably, even Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 Remake maintained a CERO:C rating in Japan despite its mature Western classification.

Konami's latest Silent Hill Transmission focused exclusively on Silent Hill f - the franchise's first main installment in 13 years. Originally announced in 2022, the game transports players to 1960s Japan as protagonist Shimizu Hinako, a teen battling societal expectations. Renowned visual novel creator Ryukishi07 (When They Cry series) penned the narrative.

The trailer depicts Hinako's harrowing journey through disturbing transformations - her school uniform shredded, body bearing brutal wounds. While mostly cinematic, we glimpsed the game's nightmare realm where crimson blossoms may replace the series' signature industrial horror aesthetics. The footage also teased terrifying new creature designs.

Konami hasn't announced a release window for Silent Hill f, and provided no updates on No Code's parallel project Silent Hill: Townfall.
