Rocksteady Sheds Staff Amidst Suicide Squad Woes

Feb 02,25

Rocksteady Studios, the creator of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, announced further job cuts at the close of 2024, impacting programmers, artists, and testers. This follows September's layoffs, which halved the testing team's size from 33 to 15.

These reductions reflect the significant challenges faced by Rocksteady in 2024, stemming from the game's poor reception and resulting in reported losses of approximately $200 million for Warner Bros. No further updates are planned for Suicide Squad in 2025, though servers will remain active.

The layoffs weren't limited to Rocksteady; Warner Bros. Games Montreal also experienced job losses, with 99 employees let go in December.

The game's early access launch exacerbated the situation, revealing numerous bugs, server outages, and even a significant plot spoiler. Negative reviews from major gaming publications and a staggering 791% surge in refund requests (according to McLuck analytics) further compounded the issues.

Rocksteady's future projects remain unannounced.
