NetEase's Ananta: A New Name, a New Trailer, and a Mysterious Social Media Purge

Remember Project Mugen, the urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain? It's had a name change! Now officially titled Ananta, this highly anticipated game, initially revealed at Gamescom 2023, has finally released a new trailer after a long silence. More information is promised on December 5th, but for now, feast your eyes on the teaser:

The Meaning Behind the Name Change

While developers haven't commented on the shift from Project Mugen to Ananta, the Sanskrit meaning of "infinite" aligns with Mugen's Japanese equivalent. The Chinese title further supports this interpretation. The gaming community is divided on the change, but relieved the project is still alive.

Comparisons to Neverness to Everness

Ananta's stylish new trailer, however, lacks gameplay footage, leading many to favor Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta boasts impressive visuals, the lack of gameplay leaves its position uncertain.

A Curious Social Media Reset

Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel with over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed. This unusual decision has sparked considerable confusion among fans.
