Palworld Remains Buy-to-Play: Developer Quashes F2P Rumors

Following reports of potential shifts to a free-to-play (F2P) or games-as-a-service (GaaS) model, Palworld developer Pocketpair has officially confirmed that the game will remain a buy-to-play title. In a recent statement on Twitter (X), the team explicitly stated their commitment to the current business model, clarifying that a transition to F2P or GaaS is not in their plans.

The clarification followed an interview with ASCII Japan where Pocketpair explored various future possibilities for Palworld. The developer emphasized that while internal discussions regarding long-term growth strategies are ongoing, the F2P/GaaS approach is ultimately unsuitable for the game's current design and player expectations. They underscored their commitment to prioritizing player preferences.

Pocketpair acknowledged concerns raised by the previous reports and apologized for any resulting anxieties. They reiterated their dedication to making Palworld the best possible experience, emphasizing that the game's foundation doesn't align with a F2P/GaaS model. The developer also confirmed that the ASCII Japan interview was conducted several months prior.

While future content updates are planned, including the possibility of new Pals and raid bosses, Pocketpair is currently exploring the addition of cosmetic skins and DLC as a sustainable method for ongoing development. Further details on this will be shared at a later date.
