Switch Joy-Con Acts as Mouse for Home Menu

Nintendo has confirmed that players will be able to navigate the Switch 2's home screen using the new Joy-Con's mouse-like controls.

Since the Switch 2 was unveiled, fans have been curious about the functionality of these innovative controls. Last month, Nintendo officially detailed the "mouse mode," which allows players to slide the controllers on a surface and use the analog sticks to perform left and right clicks, mimicking a traditional computer mouse. Interestingly, you can even use two Joy-Con in mouse mode at once—one in each hand—or mix and match with a controller in standard mode.

New details have now emerged. A demonstration on the Nintendo Today app, later shared on X (formerly Twitter), reveals that the Joy-Con 2's mouse controls are fully functional on the Switch 2's Home menu.

According to Nintendo, "When you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a flat surface with its attachment side facing down, an on-screen cursor will appear. To display this cursor, simply set the controller on a table and move it as demonstrated."

The company added, "While in mouse mode, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus. This mouse control functionality works on the Home menu and within compatible software." When you want to return to using the thumbstick normally, just lift the Joy-Con 2 back to a horizontal position.

It's still unclear how many games will support this feature, but Nintendo has demonstrated it working with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball title Drag x Drive.
