Independent studio We Are Muesli has unveiled its upcoming narrative experience In Their Shoes, slated for a 2026 release on mobile and PC platforms. The project has already gained recognition with a nomination for the prestigious A MAZE. 2025 independent games awards in Berlin.

In Their Shoes: A Narrative Game Focused on Empathy

Set in contemporary Milan - a city of stark contrasts - the game invites players to inhabit seven distinct personalities through 49 interactive vignettes called "Moments." These bite-sized narrative experiences capture fleeting instances of ordinary lives, from mundane routines to pivotal decisions.

Gameplay alternates between contemplative sequences that linger on a character's internal monologue and time-sensitive scenarios requiring quick reactions. Unlike traditional narrative games that deliver polished stories, In Their Shoes presents fragmented narratives that gradually reveal 26 biographical details per character through organic discovery.

While not yet available on mobile platforms, the Steam page offers the first official look at this unconventional slice-of-life experience. Watch the announcement trailer below:
