MindsEye Teases Major Update for Physical Copies

Nov 25,25

MindsEye developer Build A Rocket Boy is urging fans to wait for the official release date before playing the game, after some individuals obtained physical copies a week early and shared their initial impressions on social media.

X/Twitter user @MrHazel88 posted a photo of a physical MindsEye copy, along with several follow-up tweets criticizing the game’s current state and labeling it a “technical mess.”

MindsEye is officially scheduled to launch on June 10, but copies began circulating a week ahead of schedule. In response, Build A Rocket Boy issued a statement via social media, asking players to avoid posting spoilers and confirming a day-one update that players should install before starting the game.

The developer described this as a “major” update for physical editions, set to go live at release. It will deliver “key improvements to ensure MindsEye runs as intended and introduces all characters at their best.”

Regarding spoilers, Build A Rocket Boy emphasized that MindsEye is “built around twists and emotional moments.”

“We want everyone to experience the story together at the same time on launch day, free from bias,” the studio explained. “That means holding off until the official release date to play through the game yourself.”

Clearly, MindsEye is launching under pressure. The early street date break and initial negative feedback are the latest challenges Build A Rocket Boy has faced during the game’s development.

Last week, the studio’s co-CEO alleged there is a “concerted effort” to “damage the game and the studio's reputation,” even suggesting that individuals may be paid or use spam bots to post negative comments.

Mark Gerhard, who became co-CEO of the Edinburgh-based Build A Rocket Boy alongside former Rockstar North lead Leslie Benzies last year, shared these claims on the official MindsEye Discord, prompting surprised reactions from fans.

Just days before the game’s launch, Build A Rocket Boy’s Chief Legal Officer and Chief Financial Officer confirmed their departures, raising concerns within the studio’s growing community.

MindsEye is set to release on June 10, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. It blends elements from Grand Theft Auto, Watch Dogs, and Cyberpunk, along with a user-generated content system described as “AAA Minecraft.”

Priced at $59.99, the game includes a “tightly crafted linear story campaign” and a “single-player free roam” mode. At launch, players can also access several missions: a horde mode titled “Destruction Site Shootout,” plus two combat missions—“Honor Amongst Thieves” and “Friendly Fire.” Additionally, there are six standard races, six checkpoint races, and three drone races. Premium pass holders receive an extra horde mode mission and an exotic cosmetics pack.

After launch, Build A Rocket Boy plans to release a “steady stream” of new premium content every month, “making MindsEye a dynamic, ever-expanding player experience.” This includes fresh missions, challenges, and game assets. “Combining regular studio updates with standout community creations means MindsEye will continue to surprise and engage players for years to come,” the developer added.

The studio also confirmed its 2025 content roadmap. Summer will bring community updates and new missions; fall introduces new single-player modes, multiplayer, and additional missions; and winter will see free roam enhancements along with more missions. Premium pass subscribers gain access to extra missions and new content packs throughout the year.
