Tantalus Media, the studio behind acclaimed Nintendo remasters like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD, is revealed as the developer of the upcoming Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for Nintendo Switch. The original Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, saw Luigi once again facing off against King Boo in a spooky mansion adventure.

Nintendo announced the Switch remake last September, confirming its June 27th release date this past March. While a teaser trailer and file size were revealed earlier, the developer remained a secret until recently.

According to VGC, Tantalus Media's involvement is confirmed in the game's credits, taking over from the original developer, Next Level Games. Tantalus Media's extensive Nintendo portfolio also includes the Switch port of Sonic Mania and work on PC ports of classic titles.

Luigi's Mansion 2 HD has received positive early reviews, praised as another successful Nintendo remaster alongside Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. However, similar to Paper Mario, pre-order issues resulted in some cancellations from retailers.

The late reveal of Tantalus Media follows a pattern for Nintendo, mirroring the late announcement of the Super Mario RPG remake's developer, ArtePiazza. This secrecy extends to other titles, such as Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, highlighting Nintendo's tendency to keep development details under wraps until close to release.
