Kojima Details Death Stranding Pitch to Reedus

Feb 09,22

Hideo Kojima reveals how Norman Reedus quickly signed on to star in Death Stranding. Despite the game's early development stage, Reedus enthusiastically agreed to the role after a sushi restaurant pitch from Kojima.

Death Stranding, a surprising hit, featured Reedus as Sam Porter Bridges, a courier navigating a post-apocalyptic world filled with dangers. Reedus' performance, alongside other Hollywood talent, contributed significantly to the game's success and lasting impact.

Kojima's Twitter post details the speed of Reedus' commitment. He claims Reedus instantly accepted the role, even before a script existed. Within a month, Reedus was in the studio for motion capture, likely for the acclaimed E3 2016 trailer which showcased Death Stranding as Kojima Productions' debut independent project.

The post also highlights the precarious position of Kojima Productions at the time. Newly independent after leaving Konami, Kojima had limited resources when he approached Reedus. Their initial connection stemmed from the canceled Silent Hills project with Guillermo del Toro, a project that only resulted in the infamous P.T. demo. However, this connection ultimately paved the way for their collaboration on Death Stranding.
