During an insightful interview at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon delved into the upcoming distinctions between Omni-Man and Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1. Boon addressed fans' concerns about the potential overlap in combat styles between these two powerful characters, assuring that NetherRealm Studios is committed to crafting unique experiences for each.

Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently

In a detailed discussion with IGN, Boon explained how the development team plans to differentiate the two heroes. By carefully splitting their abilities, the team aims to ensure that players feel they are controlling two distinctly different characters. Boon emphasized the creative freedom they have with these characters, yet stressed their intention to avoid duplicating Superman-esque abilities. "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that," he stated.

Boon further elaborated on how the team drew inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to design their Fatalities. He assured fans that the main attacks and overall gameplay will clearly differentiate Homelander from Omni-Man, countering any assumptions that they might be similar characters. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon noted.
