Harrison Ford Joins Marvel for Fun, Unbothered by Indiana Jones 5 Flop

Harrison Ford, known for his iconic roles in the Star Wars saga, remains unfazed by the critical and commercial failure of "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny." Despite the film's estimated $100 million loss and widespread panning, Ford remains philosophical, simply stating, "shit happens." He expressed to The Wall Street Journal Magazine that his motivation to return to the character stemmed from a desire to explore further the life of Indiana Jones. "When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened," Ford explained. He remains content with his decision to make the film, stating, "I’m still happy I made that movie."

Undeterred by the setback, Ford has transitioned to another major franchise by joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for "Captain America: Brave New World." He steps into the role of Thaddeus Ross, previously played by the late William Hurt, and will portray the character's transformation into Red Hulk. Interestingly, Ford joined the project without prior knowledge of this plot twist, having not seen the script before committing. His decision was driven by the allure of fun and enjoyment he observed in other actors within the MCU. "Why not? I saw enough Marvels to see actors that I admired having a good time," Ford remarked. He added humorously, "I didn’t really know that at the end I would turn into the Red Hulk. Well, it’s like life. You only get so far in the kit until the last page of the instructions is missing."

"Captain America: Brave New World" is set to be one of the shortest films in the MCU and marks the first time Anthony Mackie will star as Captain America, succeeding Chris Evans' Steve Rogers. The film, slated for release on February 14, will also introduce deep-cut characters from Marvel lore, including The Leader, fulfilling a tease from the second MCU film, "The Incredible Hulk."
