A year after its launch, Forspoken remains a source of heated debate among players, even with its recent inclusion in the PS Plus free-to-play library.
The game's free availability hasn't settled the arguments about its overall value. While the December 2024 PS Plus Extra and Premium lineup announcement drew positive reactions, with many expressing excitement about Forspoken and Sonic Frontiers, a significant portion of those who tried Forspoken for free abandoned it after a short time. Criticism frequently centered on the "ridiculous dialogue" and weak storyline. While some players appreciated the combat, parkour, and exploration, the general feeling is that the narrative and dialogue significantly detract from the overall experience.
PS Plus hasn't proven to be a revitalizing force for Forspoken; its inconsistent quality remains a major sticking point. The action RPG follows Frey, a young woman from New York, who finds herself magically transported to the breathtaking but perilous land of Athia. To return home, Frey must master her newfound magical abilities, battle formidable creatures, and defeat powerful matriarchs known as the Tants, all while navigating the expansive game world.
