"Fincher and Pitt's 'Hollywood' Sequel Heads to Netflix"
David Fincher and Brad Pitt are reportedly joining forces once again to bring a sequel to Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to life, based on a script originally penned by Tarantino himself. According to The Playlist, this unexpected project is set to be released on Netflix, further cementing Fincher's relationship with the streaming platform. The film, currently untitled, would see Pitt reprising his role as the stunt-double Cliff Booth.
The journey of this script to Fincher is quite the tale. It's an evolved version of what was once known as The Movie Critic, a project that Tarantino had considered for his final film before abandoning it last year. Rather than letting the idea fade away, Tarantino has handed it over to Fincher to breathe new life into it.
The Playlist reports that Netflix has secured the screenplay for $20 million, with a hefty $200 million budget earmarked for the project. Filming is slated to begin in California in July, just three months away. While no other casting details have been confirmed, it's noted that Leonardo DiCaprio won't be returning as Rick Dalton. Both Fincher and Pitt are fully committed to this sequel, setting aside other projects to focus on it.
Deadline has confirmed The Playlist's report, adding that Pitt received Tarantino's blessing to pitch the script to Fincher, leading to this surprising collaboration.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, released in 2019, is widely regarded as another masterpiece in Tarantino's oeuvre. The upcoming sequel, potentially titled Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2, has a high bar to meet, especially following the original's definitive conclusion. However, the world of the film has been further explored in other media.
In 2021, Tarantino released a novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which not only retells the movie's events but also delves deeper into the 1960s California setting. The novel sheds light on Cliff Booth's past, including the mystery surrounding whether he killed his wife, as hinted in the film. This book is expected to gain additional significance once the sequel is released, though its exact role in the new story remains to be seen.
