Firaxis Games is bringing the recently released Civilization VII to virtual reality.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII - VR, the franchise's first VR title, will launch exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets in Spring 2025. Developed by PlaySide Studios (known for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and Meta Horizon Worlds), this VR adaptation promises a unique experience.

Here's the official description:

Civilization VII - VR brings the iconic 4X strategy game to life. The game world unfolds on a Command Table, allowing players to zoom in for intricate details or zoom out for a strategic overview. Engage with world leaders directly, forging alliances or declaring war across the ages.

Play in immersive VR or mixed reality, seamlessly switching between modes. VR transports you to a personalized museum overlooking your civilization's progress, while mixed reality adapts the Command Table to your physical space. The Archives, a museum room showcasing your achievements, are viewable in both modes. Online multiplayer supports up to four players.

The PC and console versions of Civilization VII, currently available through early access, have received mixed reception. Steam reviews cite UI issues, limited map variety, and missing features as key concerns.

Firaxis has acknowledged this feedback, pledging improvements including UI refinements, cooperative multiplayer teams, and expanded map types.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with IGN, addressed the negative reviews, expressing confidence that the core Civilization fanbase will appreciate the game with continued play and describing its early performance as "very encouraging."
