Alienware Area-51 Now Supports RTX 5090 Graphics Card

Dell has revitalized the iconic Alienware Area-51 lineup of prebuilt gaming PCs, and now there's an exciting new option for enthusiasts. Previously limited to a single graphics card, the RTX 5080, you can now configure your system with the powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, paired with the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU. This new configuration starts at $5,499.99, and the best part? Dell promises an early April ship date, so you won't have to wait long to get your hands on this beast of a machine.

Even though the $5,500 configuration is labeled as the "base" model for an Alienware Area-51 equipped with an RTX 5090 GPU, it's anything but basic. You get an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU, which is Intel's latest flagship and delivers exceptional performance for both gaming and workstation tasks. While it doesn't quite match the leap we hoped for from the i9-14900K, it's currently the best Intel has to offer. This powerhouse is cooled by a robust 360mm all-in-one liquid cooler, and a 1,500W 80Plus Platinum-rated power supply ensures the system runs smoothly.

New for 2025: The Alienware Area-51 Chassis

Dell showcased the revamped Alienware Area-51 at CES 2025, featuring a chassis that echoes the 2024 R16 model but with significant enhancements in aesthetics and cooling. The I/O panel has been repositioned to the top, and the tempered glass now extends across the entire side panel, eliminating the need for side vents. Instead, air intakes are cleverly placed at the bottom and front, promoting a positive airflow design that keeps the interior cleaner. The system's internals have been upgraded with a new motherboard, faster RAM, and a more powerful power supply to support the latest CPUs and GPUs.

The RTX 5090 Is the Most Powerful Graphics Card Ever

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 stands as the pinnacle of consumer GPUs. Despite Nvidia's focus on software updates, AI features, and DLSS 4 technology, the RTX 5090 offers a remarkable 25%-30% performance increase over the RTX 4090 in terms of raw raster performance. It also comes with more and faster VRAM (32GB GDDR7 vs 24GB GDDR6). Given its rarity at retail prices, it's often found on eBay for between $3,500 and $4,000.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE Review by Jackie Thomas

"The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has officially taken the performance crown from the RTX 4090, though not as forcefully as previous generations. In traditional gaming without AI assistance, the RTX 5090 provides one of the smallest generational uplifts we've seen recently. However, in games that support DLSS 4, the performance gains are significant – albeit with 75% of the frames generated by AI."
