Summary

  • Rumors suggest Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are in development for PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Both releases are reportedly slated for sometime in 2025.
  • According to one industry insider, "way more" first-party Xbox titles are expected to become multi-platform this year.

A prominent industry insider reports that Halo: The Master Chief Collection may soon arrive on PS5 and Switch 2. The same source indicates at least one other major Xbox franchise is also preparing for a multi-platform release.

Microsoft began a focused effort to bring its first-party titles to other consoles in February 2024. The initial wave included Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves. Some analysts also include As Dusk Falls in this group, as it was published by Xbox Game Studios and remained a console exclusive for 20 months, despite not being developed in-house. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 joined the list on non-Xbox platforms in October 2024, with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle set to follow on PS5 in spring 2025.

NateTheHate, a well-known leaker, suggests Microsoft's multi-platform strategy may now expand to include the flagship Halo franchise. On a January 10 podcast, he stated he had "heard" that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is being ported to both PS5 and Switch 2, with a planned 2025 launch for this six-game collection.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Also Reportedly Coming to PS5 and Switch 2

NateTheHate also indicated that Microsoft Flight Simulator is likely to follow a similar path. While he didn't specify the exact title, it's plausible the reference is to the latest installment, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, which launched in November. The leaker suggested this franchise could also arrive on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles sometime in 2025.

'Way More' Xbox Games Are Reportedly Going Multi-Platform in 2025

Another reliable Microsoft insider, Jez Corden, corroborated this outlook. He recently claimed on Twitter that "way more" Xbox games are headed to PS5 and Switch 2. Corden has repeatedly stated his belief that the era of permanent Xbox console exclusives is already over.

Call of Duty is another Microsoft-owned series almost certain to reach more platforms soon. As part of its commitment to secure regulatory approval for the Activision Blizzard acquisition, Microsoft signed a 10-year deal in late 2022 to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo consoles. No Switch version has materialized yet, possibly because Microsoft is waiting for the more powerful Switch 2, which would be better equipped to handle modern, realistic military shooters.
