"WoW Patch 11.1 Introduces Two New Races"
Summary
- Patch 11.1 in World of Warcraft introduces Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races with Goblin jetpacks.
- The Undermine zone in Patch 11.1 will not allow flying, utilizing customizable cars and jetpacks instead.
- Racers can expect challenges like ring collection, speed, and difficulty in the new Skyrocket races.
World of Warcraft is set to thrill players with two new racing types in Patch 11.1: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races that feature flying Goblin jetpacks. These exciting additions will replace Skyriding races in the new zone, Undermine, introduced in the first major content update for World of Warcraft: The War Within.
Patch 11.1, dubbed Undermined, transports players to the sprawling subterranean city of Undermine, the capital of the Goblins. Despite its vast expanse, flying is prohibited within the zone. Instead, players will navigate using D.R.I.V.E., a dynamic and customizable car-like mount that promises to zip through the city's streets even faster than traditional Skyriding. This system will be fully utilized in the new Breakneck races.
In addition to Breakneck races, Skyrocket races introduce a novel challenge where players don Goblin jetpacks to soar through the skies. This new form of movement blends elements of both existing flying systems: players can't stop mid-air like with Steady flight, yet they maintain momentum and altitude unlike in Skyriding. Footage from WoW content creator MrGM, captured on the Public Test Realm, showcases how racers gain speed by collecting rings, which in turn makes their turns less responsive and adds a layer of difficulty to the races.
New Skyrocket and Breakneck Races in World of Warcraft Patch 11.1
Because Skyriding is not an option in Undermine, the zone won't feature Skyriding races. However, both Breakneck and Skyrocket races will offer achievements for achieving Bronze, Silver, and Gold times. Additionally, there will be reverse versions of all four Skyrocket and D.R.I.V.E. Breakneck races, although no Advanced or Challenge courses are planned as seen in some Skyriding races.
All Skyrocket and Breakneck Races in World of Warcraft Patch 11.1
Skyrocket | Breakneck |
---|---|
Skyrocketing Sprint | Breakneck Bolt |
The Heaps Leap | Junkyard Jaunt |
Scrapshop Shot | Casino Cruise |
Rags to Riches Run | Sandy Scuttle |
Initial reactions to the Skyrocket races have been varied. While some players are eager to experience this new racing style, others find the jetpack flying to be stiff and less responsive than Skyriding. However, with Patch 11.1 still under development, there's ample time for these races to be refined before their anticipated release in February.
