Warner Bros. Announces The Shutdown Of Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Just One Year After Its Launch

Feb 27,25

Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled starting August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially going offline October 21st, 2024.

The reasons behind the closure remain unannounced, though it follows NetherRealm's recent dissolution of its mobile games division, responsible for other titles like Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice. This suggests a potential shift in the company's mobile gaming strategy.

The status of in-game purchases remains unclear. NetherRealm and Warner Bros. haven't commented on refunds for purchased currency or items, promising further information soon. Players are advised to monitor the official X (formerly Twitter) account for updates regarding refunds.

Released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the series. Unlike its fighting game predecessors, it blended action-adventure combat with a cinematic narrative, reminiscent of free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The game's storyline centered on Raiden and a player-controlled team thwarting Shinnok's bid for power.
