"Top Pokémon Card Price Shifts This Week - May 9"

May 22,25

Another week brings another rollercoaster ride in the Pokémon single card market as trainers eagerly await the release of Destined Rivals. Thankfully, the Black Bolt and White Flare Pokémon Center preorders managed to dodge the usual bot onslaught this time around.

The most significant drop this week was Greninja ex 214/167, which plummeted nearly 50% from its value at the start of the year. We're also witnessing notable price reductions across the Obsidian Flames and the elusive 151 expansions. In contrast, Dragonite V from Evolving Skies is experiencing a surge, nearly doubling in value since the year began, and its stunning artwork has long suggested it was undervalued.

Charizard V Alt Art continues to captivate with its depiction of a battle against Venusaur and is steadily climbing in value. Meanwhile, Rayquaza VMAX Alt Art is soaring, gaining an impressive $100 in value since January. Let's delve into the week's top Pokémon TCG climbers and crashers.

Pokémon Card Crashes

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon CompanyWhile Sword and Shield era Pokémon Cards are finally showing signs of growth, Scarlet and Violet series cards are settling into more reasonable prices.

Alakazam ex SIR from 151 is a stunning card, now 34% cheaper than at the beginning of March. It's a must-have for any collection this year.

Bulbasaur was my first starter in Pokémon Blue, so Bulbasaur IR holds a special place in my heart. It's dropped a massive 52% since mid-March, making it an irresistible addition to your collection.

Moving on to Obsidian Flames, Ninetales IR has always been a standout card in the set. If you're a fan, now's the time to grab it, as it's crashed by 40% since February to a reasonable $18.17.

The biggest crasher this month is Greninja ex SIR, which was once poised to be the most expensive Scarlet and Violet era card. However, Prismatic Evolutions raised the FOMO to new heights. It's still a fantastic card, holding strong at $275, but imagine paying $411.62 back in February. Ouch.

Pokémon Card Climbers

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon CompanyTurning to this week's climbers, Rayquaza VMAX alt art remains one of the crown jewels of the Sword and Shield era. Already a $500+ card, it's now at $649.99 and shows no signs of slowing down. It could hit the $1,000 mark in a few years, so grab one if you can afford it.

There's never enough love for Kanto in my book, and Charizard V Alt Art delivers with its dynamic battle scene against Venusaur. The angle and movement set it apart from many static Pokémon cards (WotC era, I'm looking at you). It's gained another $40 since January and could easily top $200 before the year's end.

That's why it's nearly doubled in value since mid-January, now at a solid $225. Don't miss out on adding it to your collection.
