How to Obtain Tier II/Fine Gear in Avowed
In *Avowed*, keeping your weapons and armor upgraded is crucial for tackling the increasing difficulty as you progress through the game. Initially, you'll encounter mostly Common, or Level I, weapons and enemies. However, as you advance, you'll face Level II challenges, necessitating Fine, or Level II, gear. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to acquire Tier II/Fine weapons and armor in *Avowed*.
How to Upgrade Weapons and Armor from Common (I) to Fine (II) in Avowed
While some weapons and armor in *Avowed* can be found or bought as Fine Quality, many will need upgrading to reach this level. The game uses a dual system to gauge gear effectiveness: Quality and Levels. Quality is indicated by a descriptor, color, and Roman Numeral. Common gear, marked in green, is denoted by I, whereas Fine gear, marked in blue, is denoted by II. Within each Quality tier, there are three additional sub-levels ranging from +1 to +3.
To upgrade your gear from Common (I) to Fine (II), you'll need to visit a Party Camp, where you can find a workbench dedicated to upgrading. You must progress through each sub-level (+1 to +3) before reaching Fine (II). Each sub-level requires specific materials, which vary depending on the gear type. After achieving the +3 upgrade, you can then advance to Fine (II), but this requires Adra, a rare crystal obtained through quest rewards, purchases from Merchants, or by dismantling Unique gear.
Where to Find and Purchase Fine (II) Weapons and Armor in Avowed
Upgrading gear is resource-intensive, but there are other ways to obtain Fine (II) weapons and armor. In the Living Lands, particularly in Dawnshore, you might occasionally find Fine (II) gear early in your playthrough. These items can drop from Level II enemies, especially Bounties. However, using Common gear against Level II foes can be risky due to their reduced effectiveness, so ensure you have ample health potions on hand.
Fine weapons and armor are also available for purchase in Paradis. Access to Paradis is granted to the Envoy shortly after defeating the Dreamscourge-infested bear boss in Dawnshore during the early stages of the Main Quest. In Paradis, near the Bounty Board, you'll find a pair of sister Merchants. Merlylin specializes in magical items like grimoires and wands, while her blacksmith sister, located at the next stall over, offers a range of standard Fine weapons and armor (as shown in the image above).
By following these methods, you'll be well-equipped with Fine weapons and armor to tackle the challenges in *Avowed*.
