Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025

Nintendo has issued an unusual statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks originating from CES 2025. The company confirmed that the images circulating online are not official, a straightforward declaration made notable by Nintendo's typically reserved approach to leak responses.

This clarification follows a series of leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. One prominent leak featured a Switch 2 replica displayed by accessory manufacturer Genki at CES. These images quickly spread across social media.

Responding to an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, a Nintendo representative labeled the Genki replica images as "not official," emphasizing Nintendo's absence from CES 2025. Therefore, any Switch 2 visuals from the show are not considered official promotional material.

Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?

While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with prior leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is a new button—shaped like the capture button on the left Joy-Con—located below the right Joy-Con's home button and labeled "C." Its function remains a mystery.

Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to clarify the "C" button's purpose, offered additional details. He suggested the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will use magnetic attachment instead of sliding rails and could function as a mouse, echoing claims from other sources.

Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail launch isn't expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
