Splatoon 3 Updates Ending Fuels Splatoon 4 Speculation

Nintendo's announcement that regular updates for Splatoon 3 are ending has reignited speculation about a Splatoon 4 release.

The End of an Era for Splatoon 3

While regular content updates are concluding, Splatoon 3 isn't entirely abandoned. Holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue. Monthly challenges and weapon balance patches will also be released as needed.

Nintendo's Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."

This news followed the Grand Festival event on September 16th, commemorated by a video showcasing past Splatfests. Nintendo's closing message was: "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us, it's been a blast!"

Splatoon 4 Rumors Intensify

With two years having passed since Splatoon 3's launch on September 9th, and Nintendo shifting focus, rumors of a sequel are gaining momentum. Some players believe in-game locations during the Grand Festival hinted at a new city in a potential Splatoon 4. However, others dismiss this as speculation.

While no official announcements have been made, reports earlier this year suggested Nintendo had begun development on the next Splatoon title for the Switch. The Grand Festival, being the final major Splatfest, further fuels fan anticipation for a Splatoon 4 reveal. Past Splatoon Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels, leading to speculation about a "Past, Present, or Future" theme for Splatoon 4.

Until an official announcement from Nintendo, the wait for news on a new Splatoon game continues.
