Sphere Defense: A Classic Tower Defense Experience on Android

Tomnoki Studio's Sphere Defense is a new tower defense game for Android, drawing clear inspiration from the classic geoDefense by David Whatley. The developer, a longtime fan of geoDefense, aimed to recreate its elegantly simple yet challenging gameplay.

The Core Concept

The game's premise is straightforward: Earth ("The Sphere") faces imminent destruction at the hands of alien invaders. Humanity, forced underground, scrambles to develop new technologies for defense. After years of setbacks, humanity finally amasses sufficient firepower to launch a counteroffensive, and you're at the helm, tasked with saving the planet.

Gameplay

Sphere Defense faithfully adheres to the classic tower defense formula. Players deploy various units, each with unique strengths, to repel waves of enemies. Successful enemy eliminations yield resources to expand and upgrade defenses. Increasing difficulty levels demand strategic thinking and resource management.

The game offers three difficulty settings: easy, normal, and hard, each comprising 10 stages, with each stage lasting 5 to 15 minutes. See the gameplay in action:

Diverse Units and Strategic Deployment

Sphere Defense features seven distinct unit types, offering strategic depth through combinations. Offensive units include the Standard Attack Turret (single-target), Area Attack Turret (area-of-effect), and Piercing Attack Turret (for linear enemy formations).

Support units such as the Cooling Turret and Incendiary Turret enhance offensive capabilities, while support-attack units like the Fixed-Point Attack Unit (precise missile strikes) and Linear Attack Unit (satellite laser) provide additional tactical options.
