Next month, PlayStation Plus subscribers will see 22 games removed from their library, including heavy hitters like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. This departure is set to occur on May 20, 2025.

PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service for PlayStation platforms, offering free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer, and member-exclusive discounts. It also boasts a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games available to Extra and Premium members.

As reported by Push Square, this significant update includes the removal of two notable first-party Sony PS3 games from the PS Plus Premium library.

The removal of Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 is particularly noteworthy because these titles are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store. This makes the PS Plus Premium streaming service the final bastion for experiencing these games, unless you possess both games and a functioning PS3. These titles are being delisted less than a year after their inclusion in the library at the end of 2024.

The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac Games post their work on the Ratchet and Clank franchise, comprises alternate history first-person shooters. Three games were launched for the PS3 before Insomniac shifted focus to other projects like Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank titles.

Although it's rare for Sony to pull first-party titles from their service, it has happened before, as evidenced by the unexpected removal of both Horizon games — Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West — in August 2024. Unlike the Horizon games, which remained available for purchase upon removal, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will become completely inaccessible on modern consoles after May 20.

Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service. Additionally, the more recent first-party PS4 game InFamous: Second Son is also set to leave PS Plus.

Insomniac's Resistance series has been on hiatus for some time. In February, Insomniac founder and outgoing president Ted Price disclosed a serious attempt to develop Resistance 4, which unfortunately didn't get the approval. The Resistance series, like the Killzone series from Horizon developer Guerrilla, has been sidelined.
