IDW's enduring Sonic the Hedgehog comic series recently celebrated its 75th issue, marking a significant achievement. This milestone issue culminated in the final confrontation between Team Sonic and the villain Clutch, setting the stage for the ominous "Scattered Pieces" storyline.

"Scattered Pieces," spanning issues #76-80, continues the saga. IGN exclusively unveils new artwork from the penultimate chapter, issue #79, as part of IGN Fan Fest. The gallery below showcases three variant covers for issue #79, along with previously released "Scattered Pieces" covers.

Sonic the Hedgehog #79, written by Ian Flynn, features interior art and the main cover by Adam Bryce Thomas, with variant covers by Tyler Mcgrath and Nathalie Fourdraine. IDW's official synopsis teases a climactic showdown:

The long-standing conflict between sharpshooter Whisper and the treacherous Mimic reaches its explosive conclusion! Only one will survive this battle of former allies. Can Tangle and Silver alter the course of the fight? Or will Whisper witness another friend fall victim to the crossfire? This thrilling clash is the culmination of years of tension!

Flynn shared with IGN: "IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog has thrived for seven years, developing unique storylines, characters, and narrative threads. Evan Stanley's recent arc brought many of these elements to a head. While reaching a story's climax is always satisfying, I'm equally excited to explore what follows. Many fans will be wondering 'What's next?' My arc answers that, offers some resolutions, and sets the stage for Evan's next major arc in the series."
