Silksong Set to Launch on Original Switch as Planned
Fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong can breathe a sigh of relief as the game's developer, Team Cherry, has confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel will still be available on the original Nintendo Switch. Amidst concerns sparked by the game's appearance at the Nintendo Direct for the upcoming Switch 2, Team Cherry has put those fears to rest.
Silksong Developer Reaffirms Release for Switch 1
Following Silksong's brief showcase during the Nintendo Direct for Switch 2 on April 2, speculation arose that the game might bypass the current generation console entirely. Initially announced in 2019 for PC and the original Switch, and later expanded to include PlayStation and Xbox consoles, Silksong has been eagerly awaited by fans across multiple platforms.
On April 8, Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Handler, took to Twitter (X) to address the swirling rumors. Griffin explicitly stated that Silksong will indeed be released for both the original Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2. While specifics on how the versions will differ remain under wraps, it's anticipated that the Switch 2 version will leverage the console's enhanced capabilities for a higher resolution experience.
New Silksong Images Revealed
In the wake of the Switch 2 Direct, new images of Silksong surfaced on Nintendo Japan's official website. Although the depicted locations are familiar from previous reveals, fans have pointed out noticeable graphical enhancements compared to the 2019 visuals.
Despite Team Cherry's usual reticence regarding game details, the recent developments — including Silksong's appearance at the Switch 2 Direct and the updated images — hint that an official release date announcement could be on the horizon. Additionally, recent changes to the game's Steam metadata have further fueled speculation and hope for a 2023 release.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. With the Switch 2 Direct suggesting a release this year, fans are encouraged to stay tuned for the latest updates by checking out our comprehensive coverage below!
