Team Cherry’s Marketing and Publishing Head, Matthew "Leth" Griffin, took to X (formerly Twitter) to reassure fans that Silksong is indeed real and actively being developed. This statement came in response to a fan's plea for confirmation amidst growing uncertainty.

The speculation arose when Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen changed his X profile picture to an image of a cake, leading fans to believe it might hint at an upcoming Silksong announcement or an alternate reality game (ARG). This sparked rumors, including speculation about a potential release on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, YouTuber fireb0rn, after reaching out to Griffin, clarified that Pellen’s tweet was merely a playful change with no deeper meaning. Fireb0rn tweeted, "Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie."

Despite the confusion, Griffin reassured fans by stating, "Yes the game is real, progressing and will release." This marks the first update from Team Cherry on Silksong's status in over a year and a half, rekindling hope among the community.

Silksong’s Six-Year-Long History

Originally unveiled in February 2019 and initially planned for a first-half 2023 release, Silksong faced a delay announced in May 2023. Team Cherry cited the game's expansive scope, having "gotten quite big," as the reason for needing more time to polish it. The game promises to transport players to a new kingdom, introduce nearly 150 new enemies, and feature a challenging new difficulty mode called Silk Soul.

After nearly two years of silence since the delay, this latest update, though brief, has stirred mixed reactions.
