Shawn Levy, renowned for directing Deadpool & Wolverine, is also set to helm an upcoming Star Wars film, and fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the project is still actively moving forward. Jonathan Tropper, the writer behind the film, recently shared his excitement with Screen Rant, hinting that the movie might be ready sooner than anticipated. "I am [excited] too," Tropper stated. "I hope it's on the way sooner than you think."

While details about the film remain largely under wraps, it's confirmed to be set in the Star Wars universe after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has placed the film's timeline "post-[the first] nine," suggesting it will explore the galaxy five to six years after the conclusion of the Skywalker saga. This makes Levy's project the first to delve into this new era of the Star Wars narrative.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Kennedy also confirmed that Levy's film will follow the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu in 2026. Moreover, it has been reported that Ryan Gosling is set to star, adding further excitement to the project.

Given the current timeline, fans might have to wait until at least the last quarter of 2026, if not 2027, to see Levy's Star Wars film on the big screen. However, Tropper's optimistic update suggests that the wait might not be as long as feared.

Since the release of Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, Disney has not launched a new Star Wars film, and several planned projects have been canceled, including one from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and a trilogy from Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. Additionally, a Star Wars movie slated for late 2026 was recently removed from Disney's calendar.

Looking ahead, Lucasfilm has announced three new Star Wars feature films at the 2023 Star Wars Celebration: a New Republic film directed by Dave Filoni, a Dawn of the Jedi movie led by James Mangold, and a New Jedi Order feature directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, which will see Daisy Ridley reprise her role as Rey. The New Jedi Order project has seen some changes, with screenwriter Steven Knight stepping in after Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, but Rey remains a focal point for Disney's future Star Wars endeavors.

Furthermore, X-Men producer Simon Kinberg is set to write a new Star Wars trilogy, which will not continue the Skywalker Saga as initially thought.

The next Star Wars content to hit screens will be Season 2 of Andor, premiering on Disney+ on April 22 with a triple episode launch, promising more adventures in the beloved franchise.
