Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: Super Thin Design Revealed
Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge at its May Unpacked event, introducing its latest flagship smartphone. While closely resembling the earlier 2025 release, the Galaxy S25, the new model boasts a slimmer design that gives it an edge in terms of aesthetics and portability.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge shares many specifications with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, including the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and a high-resolution 200MP camera. However, the most notable difference lies in its chassis, which has been refined to a mere 5.8mm thickness, down from the 8.2mm of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This reduction in thickness also makes the phone lighter, now weighing just 163g.
Despite its thinner profile, the Galaxy S25 Edge maintains the same 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display found in the standard Galaxy S25, despite sharing specs with the slightly larger 6.9-inch display of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Given its slim and large form factor, durability is a primary concern for the Galaxy S25 Edge. Samsung addresses this by incorporating the new Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, touted to be more durable than the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. While this upgrade aims to enhance drop resistance, the real test will be its resilience against bending, especially when sat on in a pocket—a potential new "bendgate" scenario.
The Galaxy S25 Edge also inherits the suite of "Mobile AI" tools first introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S24 and enhanced throughout 2025. Thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, these AI functionalities can be processed locally on the device, enhancing privacy. However, many AI apps will still require cloud connectivity. Samsung has added innovative features that allow users to quickly summarize notifications and news articles, catering to those who appreciate streamlined information access.
Preorders for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge are now open, with the 256GB model starting at $1,099 and the 512GB model at $1,219. The phone is available in three sophisticated color options: Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Icyblue.
Samsung is keen to emphasize the durability of this slim design. Only time will tell if their claims hold up under real-world conditions.
