The ongoing scarcity is likely linked to the release of the PS5 Pro, which doesn't offer a disc drive option. This forces users wanting the Pro's features and physical media compatibility to purchase the drive separately. The PS5 Digital Edition, released in 2020, and the subsequent PS5 Slim models, both lack integrated disc drives, further contributing to demand.
