Nintendo's Influence on LEVEL-5's Decision

After a nearly decade-long absence, Professor Layton returns. LEVEL-5, the developer, revealed at Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2024 that Nintendo's encouragement was instrumental in the creation of Professor Layton and the New World of Steam.

In a conversation with Yuji Horii (creator of the Dragon Quest series) at TGS 2024, LEVEL-5 CEO Akihiro Hino explained that while they considered Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy a fitting conclusion, Nintendo ("Company ‘N’") strongly advocated for a new game.

According to AUTOMATON, Hino stated, "The series concluded, but industry figures, particularly from 'Company N,' really pushed for a new game."

This support isn't surprising, considering the series' success on Nintendo DS and 3DS. Nintendo published many Professor Layton titles and viewed the series as a significant DS exclusive.

Hino added, "Their feedback made me realize a new game, leveraging the capabilities of the latest consoles, would allow fans to experience the series at its best."

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam: A Glimpse into the Adventure

Set a year after Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam reunites Professor Layton and Luke Triton in Steam Bison, a vibrant American city powered by steam technology. Their new investigation involves Gunman King Joe, a gunslinger lost to time.

The game maintains the series' signature challenging puzzles, enhanced this time by collaboration with QuizKnock, renowned puzzle creators. This partnership is particularly exciting given the mixed reception to Layton's Mystery Journey, which featured Layton's daughter.
