Pokémon TCG Pocket Players Blown Away After Discovering Some Cards Reference Iconic Game Boy Locations

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket players are discovering delightful hidden details in the game's card art, connecting the illustrations to the classic Game Boy Pokémon games. The revelation began when Reddit user asch_win noticed that the Spearow card features recognizable landmarks: a fence, trees, and notably, buildings resembling Celadon City's Department Store and Route 16 from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. This seemingly intentional reference sparked a community-wide investigation.

Further investigation by Reddit user jteede and asch_win uncovered more connections. A Diglett card is situated near Vermillion City, a Haunter card is positioned by Lavender Town's tower, and even some Supporter cards subtly reference specific locations.

While many card illustrations depict Pokémon in fantastical settings, others, including some real-world collectible Pikachu variants, are clearly tied to specific locations within the Pokémon world. Many of these hidden Easter eggs are exclusive to Pokémon TCG Pocket.

The community's enthusiastic sleuthing has unearthed more connections. A Gyarados full art card appears to include the S.S. Anne, and cards featuring Oddish, Venonat, and Bellsprout collectively tell a story set near the seaside Snorlax location from FireRed and LeafGreen.

Since its October release, Pokémon TCG Pocket has added one additional booster expansion, Mythical Island, bringing the total to four. With more expansions planned, and additional cards periodically added through Wonder Pick Events and updates, players are encouraged to keep a keen eye out for further references hidden within the artwork.

You can learn more about the current Wonder Pick event featuring Charmander and Squirtle, and explore the ongoing debate about whether pack choice impacts card rarity.
