During this period, players can engage in Lunar New Year-themed Field Research tasks to secure Stardust, XP, and encounters with unique Pokemon. For those looking to maximize their rewards, a Paid Timed Research option is available for $2, offering additional benefits including two Lucky Eggs and an incubator.

As Pokemon GO celebrates its ninth anniversary in 2025, the game continues to evolve with new events and updates throughout the year. Leading up to the summer and the much-anticipated Pokemon GO Fest, players can look forward to events like the Pokemon GO Tour: Unova, scheduled in Los Angeles and New Taipei City from February 21 to 23, with a global event in March. Before diving into the Unova festivities, the Lunar New Year event presents a perfect chance for players to expand their Pokemon collections.

The Pokemon GO Lunar New Year event will kick off on Wednesday, January 29, at 10:00 a.m. and run until Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. Niantic has outlined several event bonuses to enhance the gaming experience, including an increased chance of obtaining Lucky Pokemon through trades and becoming Lucky Friends. Players will encounter Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini more frequently in the wild, with a higher chance of encountering their Shiny variants. Additionally, Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi will be hatching from 2 km Eggs during the event.

Alongside these wild encounters, players can participate in Lunar New Year-themed Field Research, Timed Research, and Routes to earn Stardust, XP, Zygarde Cells, and encounter event-themed Pokemon. The Paid Timed Research option, priced at $2, not only offers encounters with Ekans and Nosepass but also provides two Lucky Eggs and an incubator. All rewards from Field Research and Timed Research must be claimed by February 2 at 8:00 p.m. local time, urging players to act swiftly upon completing their tasks.

To add more excitement, players can showcase their Lunar New Year Pokemon in PokeStop Showcases, potentially earning additional rewards based on the showcase outcomes, including item bundles. Niantic has also introduced an event-themed Collection Challenge, where completing the challenge rewards players with extra Stardust for trading, making it particularly beneficial for frequent traders.

With all these engaging activities and rewards, the Pokemon GO Lunar New Year 2025 event is set to be a thrilling celebration for players worldwide. Make sure to mark your calendars and prepare for a week filled with adventure and new Pokemon discoveries!
