Pokémon Go Director on Scopely: No Need for Fan Concern
Following the recent acquisition of Pokémon Go developer Niantic by Scopely, the company behind Monopoly Go, fans have expressed a mix of excitement and concern. The main worries revolve around potential increases in ads and the handling of personal data. However, a recent interview with Michael Steranka, a product director at Niantic, featured on Polygon, aims to alleviate these concerns.
In the interview, Steranka praised Scopely's approach and emphasized a shared vision between the two companies. He reassured fans that intrusive ads are unlikely to be introduced into Pokémon Go under Scopely's ownership. Addressing privacy concerns head-on, Steranka firmly stated that Niantic would never share or sell player data to third parties. He concluded by affirming that the transition to Scopely's oversight would have minimal impact on Niantic's operations.
If it ain't broke...While some might fear increased corporatization, I believe Scopely will adopt a hands-off approach with Pokémon Go, given its proven success. The focus might shift more towards Niantic's new AR development team. Steranka also highlighted the close involvement of The Pokémon Company in decision-making, suggesting that any major changes contrary to their ethos would be highly unlikely.
