PlayStation Plus Unveils Gifts, Refines PSN Policy for PC

Feb 20,25

Sony's PC gaming policy sparks controversy among players. The company's requirement for PSN tethering, even in single-player titles, and the service's limited regional availability restrict sales of recent releases.

Sony recently announced policy adjustments. While PSN tethering for PC remains, certain concessions have been made. These games will not require mandatory PSN tethering:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • God of War Ragnarök
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered

Players who choose to tether to PSN will receive in-game bonuses:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early access to the "2099" suit line for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
  • God of War Ragnarök: The Black Bear armor set, early access to the "Lost Things" chest, and resource packs.
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Bonus points for unlocking features.
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: The Nora Valiant costume.

In November, COO Hiroki Totoki acknowledged investor concerns regarding PSN connection requirements. He emphasized the importance of security and order, linking the restrictions to service-based games, but failed to clarify how mandatory PSN accounts enhance security in single-player experiences like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarök.

The gaming landscape has changed.
