PC Games That Play Better With A Controller

Jan 26,25

PC gaming is typically associated with keyboard and mouse controls, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from their precision. However, some PC games are actually enhanced by using a controller. Games emphasizing fast-paced action, reflex-based movement, or melee combat often feel more natural with a gamepad, especially titles originating on consoles and later ported to PC.

While many PC releases offer keyboard and mouse support, certain genres lend themselves better to controllers. Recent releases like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force all performed well with keyboard and mouse, arguably surpassing controller experiences. Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered, however, might offer a slightly improved experience with a gamepad, although the difference is minimal.

Several upcoming PC game releases show promise for controller use, although their optimal control scheme remains to be seen:

  • Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port resembling Monster Hunter, suggesting controller compatibility.
  • Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series generally plays better with gamepads, and this remaster is expected to follow suit.
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Given the similar combat system to its controller-friendly predecessor, a gamepad is likely preferable.
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: A PS5 port to PC, often implying controller prioritization, though keyboard and mouse might also function well.

A 2024 Soulslike game has also been added to this list (see below).
