Overwatch 2 is making a triumphant return to China, packed with enticing events that will allow players to earn rewards from Seasons 1 through 9, alongside skins inspired by Chinese mythology. The Chinese Overwatch 2 community can look forward to diving back into Future Earth on February 19, coinciding with the kickoff of Season 15.
Recently, Overwatch 2 announced its much-anticipated return to China. The game will officially relaunch on February 19, following a successful technical test that ran from January 8 to 15. This test allowed fans to experience the content they missed, including Overwatch: Classic and all six heroes introduced since the servers in China went offline during Season 2.
With the technical test now completed, Overwatch 2 has unveiled some of the thrilling content that awaits Chinese players. In a message posted on Xiaohongshu (also known as RedNote) by game director Aaron Keller, a multi-week celebration titled "Return to China" will feature many of the most popular in-game events and rewards missed over the past two years. Chinese players will have the chance to earn Battle Pass rewards from Seasons 1 and 2 before the game's relaunch, and from Seasons 3 through 9 through in-game events following the relaunch.
Chinese Mythology – Theme for Overwatch 2 Season 15?
Keller also hinted that Overwatch 2 Season 15 will include skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology. Currently, it's unclear whether these skins will be new or existing ones, if they'll be exclusive to China, or if they might connect to a broader Chinese mythology theme for Season 15, similar to how Season 14's cosmetics drew inspiration from Norse mythology.
Global fans won't have to wait long to learn more. Overwatch 2 Season 15 is slated to start on February 18, just before the game's official relaunch in China. As we approach this date, more details about the upcoming season are expected to be revealed, with a full announcement likely in early February.
In the meantime, players worldwide can participate in Min 1, Max 3 – the second 6v6 test in Overwatch 2 – from January 21 to February 4, featuring the classic 2-2-2 team composition. The Lunar New Year and the Moth Meta Overwatch: Classic events are also scheduled to occur before Season 15, offering plenty of excitement leading up to the new season. While Chinese players won't be able to join these global events, they can anticipate their own special celebrations soon.
